Connect Claude Code to Marka's MCP server
Connect Claude Code to Marka's MCP server with one claude mcp add command for https://joinmarka.com/api/mcp. Your API key stays private to you and this project.
Opens Claude's Add custom connector dialog with Marka's hosted MCP server filled in: click Add, then sign in to Marka. No API key to paste, and the connector syncs to Claude Desktop and the mobile apps.
To connect Claude Code to Marka's MCP server, run claude mcp add with the server URL https://joinmarka.com/api/mcp and your API key in an x-api-key header, then restart Claude Code.
- Create an API key and set it as
MARKA_API_KEY(see Before you start). - Run the
claude mcp addcommand under Connect from your project directory. - Restart Claude Code, then check that it worked.
Claude Code talks to Marka's hosted gateway over Streamable HTTP, so there is nothing to install.
You need an API key in MARKA_API_KEY (see Before you start).
Connect
Run this from the directory you start Claude Code in. That directory is the project the server belongs to.
claude mcp add --transport http marka https://joinmarka.com/api/mcp \
--header "x-api-key: $MARKA_API_KEY"The shell expands $MARKA_API_KEY when you run the command, and Claude Code stores the header in
its own config. The default local scope keeps that config private to you and this project.
Leave out --scope project
--scope project writes the server, header and key included, into .mcp.json at the project
root. That file is checked in.
Claude Code loads MCP servers when a session starts, so restart it to see the Marka tools.
Check it worked
Check the key first. A good key prints your user and plan as JSON.
curl -sS https://joinmarka.com/api/v1/me -H "x-api-key: $MARKA_API_KEY"Then ask Claude Code to search Marka. An answer drawn from the live catalogue proves the MCP connection.
Sign in with your browser instead of an API key
Claude Code can also sign in to Marka through your browser, with no key. Add the server without a header. If you already added Marka with a key, remove that entry first with the command in Changing the key.
claude mcp add --transport http marka https://joinmarka.com/api/mcpclaude mcp login markaYou can instead run /mcp in a Claude Code session and authenticate Marka from that menu. Your browser opens Marka's consent page, which names the client and the address it will return to. Sign in if asked, check both, and press Allow.
To disconnect, clear Claude Code's stored sign-in:
claude mcp logout markaOr open Settings → Connected apps on Marka and disconnect the client there. That ends its access immediately and revokes every token it holds.
Changing the key
Claude Code keeps the key it was given when you added the server. To change it, run
claude mcp remove marka -s local from the same directory, then run the connect command again.
For the bridge, other scopes and the tool sets, see MCP → Claude Code.
Agent setup
Connect Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or OpenCode to Marka by pasting one sentence into the agent, or follow a guide and do it by hand.
Codex
Add Marka's MCP server to Codex with codex mcp add or ~/.codex/config.toml. It connects over Streamable HTTP and reads your API key from an environment variable.
